The model of Dubovac Castle has found a (temporary) new home – our Nova Kraljevica Castle.

Crafted using 3D technology, this model captures Dubovac Castle down to the finest details and faithfully represents one of the most beautiful and best-preserved monuments of feudal architecture in Croatia.

In historical records, it was first mentioned as early as the 14th century and today stands as a symbol of a rich past. It is particularly interesting that it was once owned by some of the most distinguished Croatian noble families – the Zrinski and Frankopan – who made it a symbol of power and prestige.

Dubovac Castle is the oldest monument in Karlovac, and its name comes from the former oak (dub) forest that once surrounded it. From its high tower, one can see the entire city area, as well as the territories of today’s three sovereign states: Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the time the tower was built, it offered a view of the border between the Ottoman and Habsburg Empires.

Dubovac was first mentioned in 1339, when it received its first parish priest. Economically, it served as an important regional marketplace. Among its owners were prominent noble families such as (S)Zudar, Blagaj, Frankopan, and Zrinski. Later, it became the headquarters of the Karlovac army.

Dubovac Castle consists of a rectangular defensive tower, which rises two stories above three round, two-story towers. These are connected by wings that housed defensive, storage, and residential rooms. Today, the fortress houses a museum with permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a restaurant.

The model was created by Srećko Radelić and will be on display at Nova Kraljevica Castle until September.
