The Oštro Peninsula is home to an interesting lighthouse, one of the oldest ever built in these areas. The lantern is located on Cape Oštro and was built of hewn stone during the Austro-Hungarian Empire as part of the lighting of the sea routes to Rijeka. The fifteen-meter-high lantern was first lit on August 18, 1872, using kerosene. Today, the Lantern on Oštro is protected as a cultural asset and gives a touch of uniqueness to the peninsula, charming passers-by from land and sea with its red and white mantle.
