Our city shone once again this year in a special festive attire, and the perfect introduction to the happiest time of the year was Mikuljna in Kraljevica, a traditional event dedicated to the city’s patron saint, St. Nicholas. Organized by the City of Kraljevica and the Kraljevica Tourist Board, Mikuljna offered a rich and diverse program that brought together numerous visitors of all generations and created a warm holiday atmosphere.
A diverse program for all ages
Most of the program was free of charge, and the festivities began on Friday, November 28, with plenty of laughter and great entertainment. Popular stand-up comedian Josip Škiljo from the Splicka scena performed his well-known show “To je ta šema” and delighted the audience!
St. Nicholas also granted, among other things, a beautiful sunny day for the 27th maritime pilgrimage. With a ceremonial procession and Mass, this traditional event once again reminded everyone of Kraljevica’s deep connection to the sea, faith, and St. Nicholas as the patron saint of sailors.
Our beautiful Zrinski Square was dressed in festive decorations, and on the first Sunday of Advent the first Advent candle was lit, accompanied by the wonderful voices of Klapa Kraljevica and Klapa Porto Re.
Festive atmosphere, culture, and community
Special attention was given to the youngest through creative and educational workshops. Children had the opportunity to take part in a plush toy-making workshop, as well as the culinary workshop “Zakuhajmo povijest zajedno” (“Let’s Cook History Together”), organized in cooperation with CTR Routes of the Frankopans and Kraljevica Primary School, thus connecting tradition, creativity, and learning.
Children from the kindergarten and primary school performed festive programs, while meetings with St. Nicholas and the distribution of gifts brought smiles to both the children and their families. The Advent atmosphere was further enriched by musical performances and concerts, turning Kraljevica into a true place of gathering, joy, and holiday spirit.
The promotion of the book “Kraljevica – A Place of Inspiration” stood out, as well as the creative painting workshop “Wine & Art Frankopan – Xmas Edition”, which uniquely combined art, culture, and festive socializing.
Mikuljna as a symbol of togetherness
The 17th traditional “Underwater Pilgrimage” in honor of St. Nicholas gathered as many as 150 divers this year. There was no shortage of sporting events either: the St. Nicholas Basketball Tournament, a chess tournament, the Kvarner Winter League for recreational athletes, and a football tournament for the youngest players, highlighting the importance of sport and a healthy lifestyle within the community.
The crown jewel of the City Day celebrations was a musical spectacle—the concert “Kraljevice va srcu te nosin”, which filled the Sports Hall with song, applause, and ovations, bringing together renowned local performers who further enhanced the festive atmosphere.
Mikuljna va Kraljevici 2025 once again confirmed its importance as the city’s central holiday event, blending tradition, culture, sports, and entertainment, and bringing together the community and visitors year after year. Thanks to the rich program and the joint efforts of organizers and participants, Mikuljna once again marked the most beautiful beginning of the holiday season in Kraljevica!
