After three festival days in Bakar, the BURA Film Festival is making its way to Kraljevica, thanks to the collaboration between Studio B7 and the Kraljevica Tourist Board.
On Sunday, July 13th, starting at 9:00 PM, the feature film Bird will be screened at the Sansovo sports court in Bakarac as part of the Kraljevica Cultural Summer. This event will offer film lovers the chance to experience a piece of the festival atmosphere that defined the second edition of this young but already well-recognized film event. This summer, Kraljevica has brought film back in a big way – in addition to this alternative version, three more screenings will be held in July and August at the summer stage in the city center.
Organized by Studio B7, the BURA Film Festival was born from the desire of young creatives to bring free film and cultural content closer to their communities. This year’s theme was DREAMS, with the message that in times of social, political, and economic challenges, our dreams are more important than ever – as inspiration, escape, or a reminder of a brighter future. The festival has established itself as an inclusive, sustainable (waste-free) event that nurtures the local community and creates space for dialogue through art. Studio B7 has been active in the Rijeka region for many years, and through projects like the BURA Film Festival, it continues to fulfill its mission of making culture accessible to all – regardless of place of residence or socioeconomic status.
The film evening in Bakarac is a continuation of the festival story and the result of cooperation with the Tourist Board of the City of Kraljevica, further enriching the city’s cultural offering. The film Bird, which will be shown, perfectly fits the spirit of the festival, exploring complex human relationships, love, and violence.
Bird is a coming-of-age drama with elements of mysticism by director Andrea Arnold (Wasp, American Honey), set in northern Kent, England. It follows 12-year-old Bailey, who lives with her half-brother Hunter and father Bug in a messy, graffiti-covered apartment. Bug announces he’s marrying his girlfriend Kayleigh, whom he’s known for three months, and consequently has little time for his children. Bailey seeks attention and adventure elsewhere and soon meets a mysterious man named Bird, who is searching for his parents. She decides to help him, and from this develops a friendship and a unique bond. Though melancholic and somber, Bird is strikingly beautiful and ultimately a feel-good film.
The screening will take place outdoors. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own cushions, blankets, folding chairs, or loungers to sit on. As BURA is a sustainable (waste-free) event, we also kindly ask visitors to bring their own bowls and cups for enjoying the food and drinks provided. All refreshments served at the festival are locally sourced, supporting the local community, caterers, and winemakers.
BURA Film Festival, Studio B7, and the Kraljevica Tourist Board invite all lovers of the seventh art and culture to join them and experience a touch of the festival magic that has now spread to Kraljevica this summer.
Admission is free!
