The sixth edition of the international platform 3RD-SPC./RP – 3rd Space: European Research and Practice, titled “Još ne. – In Absence of a Map”, brings together artists from Croatia and other European countries.
This year’s project starts from the question of how to navigate a time in which reliable maps no longer exist. “Još ne.” (“Not Yet.”) describes a state between what is falling apart and what has not yet taken a final form. “In Absence of a Map” refers to moving without secure coordinates – political, social, spatial or personal.
Kraljevica is not merely the venue for the exhibition, but an active part of the project. Frankopan Castle, the coastline, the sea and public spaces become sites for artistic interventions, projections, performances and encounters.

Program
13 August: Films leave the exhibition space and move out onto the sea

The programme begins on Thursday, 13 August at 8:30 PM with the site-specific audiovisual installation REFLECTED TERRITORIES / SVJETLO URINJA at Skarpina Beach in Carovo, below Frankopan Castle.
Video works leave the traditional exhibition space and appear on specially constructed floating projection objects on the sea. Water, waves, wind and reflections become integral parts of the image, creating a changing choreography of light and moving images against the panorama of the Urinj refinery.
Participating artists are Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu, Camilla Angolini, Till Bödeker, Jasmina Cibic, Fabian Heitzhausen, Yaël Kempf, Alwin Lay, Lyoudmila Milanova, Daria Nazarenko, Marcel Odenbach, Swinda Oelke, Gregor Schneider, Corinna Schnitt, Anna Sokolova, Nika Špan and Markus Vater.
The floating projection objects are developed by 3RD-SPC./RP (Lina Franko, Clemens Botho Goldbach and Andi Slawinski). The project is realised in collaboration with KPA Adria.
14 August: Exhibition opening at Frankopan Castle

On Friday, 14 August at 8:00 PM, the exhibition “Još ne. – In Absence of a Map” opens at Frankopan Castle.
The first chapter of the exhibition unfolds within the castle, whose position between land and sea directly resonates with the project’s central theme. The light entering through the large windows, the historic architecture and the view of the sea become integral elements of the exhibition itself.
This part of the project presents works by Klaus Kleine, Christian Gode, Neli Ružić, Selma Selman and Branimir Štivić.
Klaus Kleine develops an installation made of earth, textiles and metal, while Christian Gode intervenes directly in the architectural structure of the space. In his work KOPNO: Artefakt °0Z26, Branimir Štivić creates a sound and video installation conceived as an imaginary artefact of a lost civilisation following a rise in sea level.
Selma Selman’s video Mercedes Matrix (2021) transforms the act of dismantling a car into a performative gesture of female autonomy, while Neli Ružić responds to the changing light of Frankopan Castle through interventions that transform reflections of sunlight into a kind of chronology of the space.
Together, the works create a space without a single predetermined path – open, permeable and constantly in motion.
Living Chess in the courtyard of Frankopan Castle

Immediately after the exhibition opening, on 14 August at 8:30 PM, the courtyard of Frankopan Castle will become a giant chessboard for the performance EXTENDED PLAY / TABLEAU VIVANT.
Instead of traditional chess pieces, people themselves appear on the board. The performance brings together members of the local community, dancers from Plesni klub Kraljevica and members of Šahovski klub Kraljevica.
The chess game will be played by Ema Hajdinić and Till Bödeker, while the chess sculptures are works by Lars Breuer and Clemens Botho Goldbach. The live sound component of the performance will be performed by Andrea Plovanić (tap dance) and Clemens Botho Goldbach (drums).
The performance is directed by Till Bödeker and 3RD-SPC./RP and is realised in collaboration with Šahovski klub Kraljevica.
In this way, the project connects contemporary art with Kraljevica’s long-standing chess tradition while directly involving the city’s residents in the artistic process.
From Kraljevica to Germany and Rijeka
Kraljevica represents the first chapter of the project “Još ne. – In Absence of a Map”. Following its Croatian phase, the project will continue in Germany in November 2026.
The second chapter opens on 14 November 2026 at Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster, where the exhibition will be on view from 15 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.
A further continuation of the project is planned for Rijeka in 2028.
In this way, 3RD-SPC./RP develops the project as a process that changes as it moves between different geographical, institutional and social contexts, rather than as an exhibition that is simply transported from one location to another.
