Bakarac once again became a meeting place of tradition, the sea, music and community! The traditional “Tira, tira” event once again brought to life the story of the old-fashioned tuna fishing tradition, while also reminding us of how deeply maritime and fishing heritage is woven into the identity of this place.
Year after year, this event brings generations together, preserves the memory of life by the sea in times gone by, and shows that tradition can truly be kept alive when a community chooses to nurture it.
This year’s story began with the concert “Gitara pod stražun”, a unique concert at sea – more precisely, on a boat that served as a floating stage and as a wonderful musical prelude to the “Tira, tira”. As every year, a special part of the story was dedicated to those who will one day carry on the tradition and continue to preserve this heritage.
“Mića Tira” – tradition in children’s hands
The youngest members of the community were not left out of the tradition either. This year’s “Mića Tira” brought together the largest number of young visitors so far, with a program full of activities that allowed children to discover life by the sea and the traditions of their hometown in a fun and engaging way.
Face painting, a workshop on tying sailors’ knots and a simulation of traditional “little” tuna fishing were just some of the activities in which children could create, learn and experience the heritage of the place where they are growing up in their own unique way.
The children’s stalls were a particularly special highlight, with more of them than ever this year. The young exhibitors presented their handmade crafts, creative works and products, all created with great effort, imagination and love.
Once again, “Mića Tira” showed just how successfully tradition can be preserved through play, socialising and creativity!
“Tira, tira” – traditions passed down through generations
This year’s “Tira, tira” was all about togetherness, music, a wonderful atmosphere and community spirit. One of the highlights was the reenactment of traditional tuna fishing, which once again reminded us of the rich fishing heritage of our region and the importance of preserving the stories and customs passed down from generation to generation.

After the tuna fishing reenactment, it was time for a true celebration!
The evening’s musical programme featured the band Insula, followed by Tomislav Bralić and Klapa Intrade, whose performances further contributed to the lively atmosphere. Alongside the music and socialising, visitors could also enjoy a selection of grilled tuna dishes, adding another special connection to the tradition that stood at the very heart of the event.

A great deal of effort went into this year’s “Tiras” thanks to the Tira Bakarac Association, its members and volunteers, as well as local residents, participants and everyone else who contributed their time, work and enthusiasm to the success of the event.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of them, as well as to the many visitors who joined us and helped make this year’s “Tiras” another memorable celebration of tradition, community and life by the sea!
