The aromas of homemade cooking, recipes passed down through generations, and stories that preserve the spirit of times gone by are at the heart of the new video series “Nona Chef”, a project by the Kvarner Tourist Board dedicated to preserving the gastronomic heritage of our region. The series was launched in a year when Kvarner proudly holds the title of European Region of Gastronomy.
At the centre of the series are Kvarner’s grandmothers (“nonas”), who reveal traditional dishes and desserts through recipes preserved in old notebooks, as well as those that have been passed down orally for decades.
Each episode brings a new story, a new recipe, and a unique taste of Kvarner. Among the featured delicacies is our mendulača, a traditional dessert from Šmrika that has held a special place on local tables for generations.
