Stari grad Zrinski i Crkva Sv. Nikole

The Old Town of the Zrinskis was built in the 17th century on the site of a medieval castle, parts of which were incorporated into Baroque architecture. Despite its lack of exploration, subsequent adaptations and reconstructions, the Old Town has largely preserved its Baroque design. This is especially true in the case of its two courtyards – the Upper and Lower Castles – with arcaded wings. In the Lower Castle, the cylindrical crown of the water tank with the coat of arms of the Zrinski family, the initials of Petar Zrinski and the year 1651 has been preserved.

The atrium of the Upper Castle was renovated in 2023 as part of the initiative and European project Povežimo se baštinom, with the end result being increased cultural and tourist activity of the building. Today, you can visit the beautiful fortress with two imposing atriums and a facade facing the sea during various summer cultural events held within the walls of this valuable historical building, connecting you to its old heritage. Today, it is also on the list of national cultural assets.

An integral part of the Old Town complex is the Church of St. Nicholas, which became a parish church by extension. It is famous for the altar painting of St. Nicholas, the patron of the city of Kraljevica, which Pope Pius VI in 1795, he granted the special privilege of complete forgiveness of temporal punishments (sins) to those who visit that shrine on the feast of Saint Nicholas. The church once served as a salt warehouse.
